Department of Education, a state department of education, and a state board of education.) Vouchers offered expanded options to low-income students assigned to failing schools. (Over the years, I helped found a charter school for low-income kids, was involved in the early days of two education advocacy organizations, and worked on education policy for a state legislature, a member of Congress, the White House, the U.S. When I started working in the modern education-reform movement about two decades ago, virtually all our efforts were intended to help the most disadvantaged students. The court cases related to school desegregation and busing, the passage of Title IX, and rules related to special education all promoted an equality agenda. Over the past several generations, the most high-profile reform efforts have sought to create a more level playing field for groups of historically underserved students, including African Americans, girls, children of immigrants, English-language learners, and students with special needs. The focus on equality is not a relic of the early republic, of course. Arizona, North Carolina, South Dakota, and Washington mandate a “general and uniform” system Colorado, a “thorough and uniform” system Idaho, a “general, uniform and thorough system.” California requires a “system of common schools” Nevada, a “uniform system of common schools” Indiana and Minnesota, a “general and uniform system of Common Schools” Kentucky, an “efficient system of common schools.” Many state constitutions, in fact, have language prioritizing commonality, equality, and/or uniformity in the provision of public education. In the decades to come, as more and more immigrants reached our shores, our schools were handed the duty of advancing acculturation and assimilation. For example, in the 19th century, it was paramount that we enabled all kids to become literate regardless of whether they could afford boarding schools and tutors. In the early days of American public education, a premium was placed on equality and standardization. We want to cultivate special gifts so each of us can be our very best. On the other hand, Americans believe in individualism: We appreciate that different people with different aptitudes and ambitions will accomplish different things. On the one hand, Americans are egalitarian: We resent unearned privilege, and we intuit that public schools ought to be where very different young people come together to prepare for an equal shot at the American dream. Gifted education puts in tension two equally compelling strands of American thought. It forces them to grapple with issues as fundamental as the meaning of equality and opportunity and the purpose of public schooling. Whether America’s public-education system should give special attention to especially high-achieving students is a question that perpetually bedevils policy makers. This story, however, represents more than a clash between one ambitious politician’s progressive aspirations and the educational equivalent of realpolitik. It would be easy to suggest that de Blasio-in Irving Kristol’s memorable language-is just another liberal mugged by reality. As for the mayor: He was conspicuously noncommittal in response to the panel of his administration’s own creation. The recommendations were met by swift opposition from several city leaders, who defended programs for precocious children while acknowledging the imbalance in program enrollment. The panel would instead prioritize schoolwide enrichment programs so a diverse student body could learn together under one roof. The panel argues in its report that the system serves to segregate by race, income, and language, and to “perpetuate stereotypes about student potential and achievement.” The panel would institute a moratorium on new gifted-and-talented programs, phase out existing programs, end the use of middle-school entrance criteria (such as grades, test scores, behavior, and lateness), and fundamentally alter high-school admissions practices. Hizzoner is known for his charged progressive rhetoric about ending inequality, but the proposal would compel him to stop talking and take on the thousands of families who like special academic offerings for their high-performing children. Over the summer, an education panel convened by Bill de Blasio put New York City’s mayor in a bind: It recommended dismantling much of the city’s programming for gifted students in order to advance integration.

Situated between Cedar Park and Lago Vista, it welcomes shooters from all over the region. Nestled in the hill country northwest of Austin, the range is located at 20026 Lindeman Ln, Leander, 78641. Monday-Sunday, every holiday, every single day. Well done Eagle Gun Range, highly recommended. Eagle Peak Shooting Range - Welcome Open 10AM-6PM, EVERY day. We could of course shot rifles and shotguns at the range, they have a huge selection of Guns to hire, but hand guns are way more fun. Us brits don’t get the chance to shoot anything but air rifles and shotguns any more, so the chance to spend time on a range with some handguns was not to be passed. We spent at least 2 hours firing off 5 rounds at a time, what a great time. The help advice and safety instructions were spot on, once inside the range the range master showed us our lane, went over the rules again and off we went. 22 and a 9mm Smith and Wesson’s with 200 rounds between us. Well the team on site couldn’t have been more accommodating, we went straight in and after a quick reading test (the range rules □) we went off and had great help and advice on the best guns to shoot. The Eagle Gun Range came up and there was also a flyer in the hotel lobby, (free gun hire on presentation of the flyer, nice touch) we tried to call ahead but the phone was always busy, as it was only a few miles we decided to just turn up and see if we could book a lane. We have been shooting whilst on holiday in the US before so looked for local ranges on trip advisor. What is the timeline of Elsewhere’s engagement with the investor in question? Why hasn't Elsewhere been willing to confirm the details of the alleged termination? If Elsewhere felt legally protected to make a public statement, what excuse do they have for failing to communicate this information (or any information over the past two years) to survivors directly? While this information is welcomed, we still have unanswered questions: Their statement also claims he has never profited from his investments in the space (presumably this is because the club, which opened in 2016 after a 3 million dollar renovation, is still a couple of years from turning a profit). Nine days later, only hours after our first public action, Elsewhere released a statement claiming to have “recently” cut financial ties with the abuser. On 4/17, an employee of Elsewhere (who made it clear that they did not officially represent the venue) admitted that the investor was still involved and fighting to keep his investments in the space with a “if I’m going down, you’re going down with me” mentality. What might a call for justice look like in a world where both interpersonal and legal processes of accountability again and again fail survivors? What happens when a known abuser’s investments sit in a space used by our community? We issued the call to move our collective talent and dancing from Elsewhere to somewhere else until the club verifies with concerned community members that it has broken ties with the abuser and that he no longer has financial assets invested in the space. Over the past two years, management received several messages which detailed his actions and use of date-rape drugs, to which the club never once responded. Since 2017, Elsewhere has been aware that one of their investors is a serial rapist. Mercuric oxide button cells were formerly common, but are no longer available due to the toxicity and environmental effects of mercury.īutton cells are dangerous for small children, as when swallowed they can cause severe internal burns and significant injury or death. Common cathode materials are manganese dioxide, silver oxide, carbon monofluoride, cupric oxide or oxygen from the air. Common anode materials are zinc or lithium. Relatively high-power devices such as hearing aids may use a zinc–air battery, which has a much higher capacity for a given size, but dries out after a few weeks even if not used.īutton cells are single cells, usually disposable primary cells. Most button cells have low self-discharge, holding their charge for a long time if not used. Devices using button cells are usually designed around a cell giving a long service life, typically well over a year in continuous use in a wristwatch. Wider variants are usually called coin cells. Stainless steel usually forms the bottom body and positive terminal of the cell insulated from it, the metallic top cap forms the negative terminal.īutton cell use in RTC modules as power sourceīutton cells are used to power small portable electronics devices such as wrist watches and pocket calculators. Small battery Button, coin, or watch cellsĪ button cell, watch battery, or coin battery is a small single-cell battery shaped as a squat cylinder typically 5 to 25 mm (0.197 to 0.984 in) in diameter and 1 to 6 mm (0.039 to 0.236 in) high - resembling a button. Sprinkle the pork chops all over with 1 teaspoon of seasoned salt, then let them come to room temperature. Step 1 Remove the pork chops from the refrigerator about 30 minutes before cooking. The USDA recommends cooking pork to an internal temperature of 145 degrees. The true test of doneness, however, should always be the internal temperature of the chops. For these 1-inch-thick pork loin chops, it takes about 12 minutes. If you're cooking thinner, breakfast style pork chops, you may only need 6 to 8 minutes. This depends on how thick your pork chops are. How long does it take pork chops to cook in an air fryer? The pork chops cook to crispy, golden perfection with just a 12 to 15 minute visit to the air fryer (just be sure to flip half way!). A single layer of food is your best best for that. That said, you want to make sure that all sides of your food are open to receive the hot, blowing air. Convection ovens cook by circulating air throughout the oven space so that whatever you are baking cooks evenly on all sides. An air fryer is basically a small countertop convection oven. Its best to put your pork chops in a single layer in the air fryer, with at least ½ inch of space between the sides of each chop. If using the The Pioneer Woman Air Fryer, we recommend cooking at a temperature of 400 degrees. Generally speaking, a temperature of 375 to 400 degrees should give you perfectly cooked chops that are crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. It's best to consult the instruction manual for your particular air fryer to settle on a temperature for the chops. What temperature do you put the air fryer on for pork chops?Īir fryers will all heat a little bit differently. Nope! In fact, the air fryer does just the opposite! Because pork chops are a lean cut, they can easily dry out when cooking, but they only cook for a short time in the air fryer in this recipe (we're talking less than 15 minutes), so they remain nice and juicy. Pair with one of your favorite classic salads and a heap of fluffy mashed potatoes, and dinner is served! But armed with a handy dandy air fryer, this favorite family meal is faster, easier, and a whole lot crispier! These chops are perfectly seasoned and breaded in panko breadcrumbs to give each bite delicious crunch. Pork chops are an easy dinner staple, whether they're pan-fried or slow-cooked to perfection. As with the other decks that I had tested and reviewed before, I played my fave The Eagles Unplugged album on the LX-3 and I tell you that it made that album sound better than I ever heard it before with those other decks. Absolutely sweet, which is no wonder because this is a Nakamichi. It sounded more natural than the other decks that I had reviewed for this site. I am still not keen on it when playing not only the signal will go through several different materials including soldering points but also it will have and extra interconnect 1m or so which can only work against you, the same for recording. The sound of this deck is amazing and I would dare say it can rival the sound of vinyl (NOTE: some owners of this deck also made the same claim). They have avoided cables and the switches seem of good quality. I don't know about the Sony or the Pioneer but having seen yours inside if there is something good that can be said about it, is that they kept all the connections compact. It's probably the reason most people generally recommend what they use, either because they like it or is the only thing they know. I have a variety of brands of IC's but I always tend to gravitate towards a particular brand that suits my taste. I understand the convenience and the more expensive the interconnects the less you are going to want to be swapping connections on a regular basis. If you were to stick to your original idea and buy identical x12 $100-$200 ICs like you suggested on your original post it is quite a decent amount of money just for convenience. I am still not keen on it when playing not only the signal will go through several different materials including soldering points but also it will have and extra interconnect 1m or so which can only work against you, the same for recording. I have seen the Sony tape switcher on Ebay (3 tape decks vs 4 for the Akai) and also an expensive nice looking Pioneer one.Ĭlick to expand.I don't know about the Sony or the Pioneer but having seen yours inside if there is something good that can be said about it, is that they kept all the connections compact. As expected, people usually recommend the cables they ended up buying or using in their system (nothing wrong with that as most have done their research before buying expensive cables). I am spending some time now reading reviews and discussions about the other mentioned cables. The Morrow cables are as expensive as some AudioQuest or similar brands. I will need 12 interconnects preferably the same brand and I see that Acoustic Research does not make cables anymore and I would be searching a while on Ebay to find matching ones. I am not interested in DIY projects as there are too many variables to control. I know there are many interconnects available on the market from DIY to super expensive. Switching cables from components to the pre-amp every time I want to listen to a different tape deck or record on one is not practical and may eventually damage the connectors (let alone working behind racks) The Akai DS-5 is very convenient and the only way to tell if it degrades the signal is by trying connecting one of my tape recorders directly to my pre-amp and comparing the sound through a connection via the Akai tape switcher. I am seeking Your wisdom first, but also Father, teach me to listen to wise advice from others, and never neglect godly instruction from the counselors You send into my life. You do not want me to be shaken or unsettled in difficulty or fear. I know You desire to instruct me because You love me. The Psalmist says if I desire wisdom, I need to read and internalize Scripture, to meditate on its teachings and precepts. I trust You, and I’m going to listen carefully for Your voice so I can stay on track with Your Word. You tell me not to lean on my own understanding, so I submit to You now and ask you for clarity and direction. I don’t understand what’s happening in my life right now, and I’m uncertain about how to move forward. I pray each practical and spiritual choice I make will reflect Your perfect will. Let me learn from the wisdom of sowing and reaping, the importance of a strong root system in life, or learning industriousness from the ant. Help me observe lessons from all You have created-the truth principles You have built into the universe. I know wise choices will watch over me, keep me safe, and fill me with joy, so guide every decision I need to make today. You are not the author of confusion, but I know I have an enemy who wants to deceive and confuse me, so please instruct me and give me a heart for Your wisdom-a growing desire for understanding and insight. I ask You to help me make good use of the wisdom You give me every day. I know that wisdom will continue to grow as a byproduct of right choices and godly responses, and as I apply Your Word to my daily circumstances. As You show me Your majesty and power, please grant me wisdom so I can better magnify Your name.Īmen. Help me view life from Your perspective-always keeping an eye toward eternity. I know You are absolutely sovereign, and I cannot claim to be wise if I try to dodge Your plans. I know that proper fear of You- reverence in the presence of Your greatness, and awareness that You are evaluating my life-will motivate me to desire wisdom as a strong foundation for trusting and obeying You.įather, give me knowledge of Your holiness, and help me consider what You are doing in our world and through my life. Help me remember that You are God and I am not. I know that genuine respect for You is the beginning of wisdom, so teach me humility as I pray. Sometimes I may not know exactly how to do that, so I pray for wisdom from heaven. I want to honor You and bring glory to Your name. Photo credit: ©Getty Images/BrianAJackson The following are a few representative prayers for wisdom. Determine to develop a close relationship with God’s wisdom and always base requests for wisdom in Scripture, looking into the Word of God as you pray. Think in terms of buying up truth and wisdom, or investing in it to become wiser and wiser. Turn your ear toward it-be attentive to it. When praying for wisdom, seek it as great treasure. God is generous to provide, and He wants His children to know and enjoy the wisdom that comes from Him. James 1:5 instructs believers to ask for wisdom-to pray for it. Many of the proverbs in Scripture were written by Solomon, such as Proverbs 4:5-7: “Get wisdom, get understanding. God answered his prayer, and that gift brought the king great insight, wealth, and fame. In the Old Testament, King Solomon requested a gift he valued above all-a wise, discerning heart. The Bible says Jesus grew in wisdom as a human and as the Son of God, Jesus became wisdom for us from the Father. Almighty God is the source of all wisdom, and He is wisdom itself. Proverbs 8:5 tells us to set our hearts on prudence-wise, good sense-so we will not act as fools. The godless wisdom of this world is considered foolishness in God’s sight. Because God’s thoughts and ways are not our thoughts and ways ( Isaiah 55:8-9), it’s important to pray that God will teach us how to live ( Psalm 25:4-5).
